Sam’s Tree and Landscaping has completed a new trail section along Little Spokane Drive, south of Colbert Road, from Riverview Road north. This includes a 4-foot-high retaining wall, 400 feet long, and gravel for a 4-foot-wide trail, 500 feet long. We are very pleased to see it completed, thanks to a very generous $50k gift from an anonymous donor. Also, many thanks to Les Anderson for the use of his property as a staging area.
The next piece heading north from Midway where Lance Pounder Excavation left off last year will continue a 1,530 foot stretch that will be tackled in Spring 2025; this includes 1,034 feet to be regraded. A small stretch of trail will be improved on the shoulder only, as there is a seasonal pond on the back side of a bedrock berm. That stretch will extend to where the 3 transformers are located.
This has been made possible due to another fantastic $25k donation from the Vandervert Community Improvement Fund. Additional fundraising will be needed, as the expected cost for this portion is $32k to complete.
Other planning is in the works keeps us moving forward along this same trail route. Significant funds will be needed again to complete the rest of the trail between Midway and Colbert roads along Little Spokane Drive. There are two other retaining walls needed, a culvert crossing and shoulder improvements through the S-curves where the cattails are.
As always, we are limited by budget constraints but are grateful to those of you who have donated to the Go Fund Me account for Friends of the Little Spokane River Valley Trails’ ongoing campaign, as well as to those who give their time and efforts to make these trails a reality.
